Senior Paralegal, Business Crime & Regulatory

The role

This is an excellent opportunity to join our Business Crime & Regulatory team as a paralegal or senior paralegal. 

The team is considered a market leader in Business Crime and Regulatory and are frequently instructed in some of the most high-profile investigations, many of which are complex and involve multiple jurisdictions.

You will have strong technical experience as well as excellent relationship building skills, working with partners and lawyers at all levels in the team to meet clients' needs. You will predominantly be responsible for fee-earning work, supporting on a variety of cases ranging from SFO investigations, internal investigations, private prosecutions, extradition, AML, regulatory (FCA, SRA,GMC, sporting bodies), international matters and other criminal matters (police, CPS, NCA etc).  

Role responsibility

  • Providing fee earning assistance for all regulatory/investigations/criminal matters.
  • Running of client matters, together with oversight provided from partners and senior lawyers assigned to the matter.
  • Performing research tasks using a range of online and hard copy research resources.
  • Contacting client and third parties including Counsel, court, police, experts, defendant/prosecution representatives etc.
  • Attending hearings (all stages including trials).
  • Accurately completing and processing criminal (crown court/magistrates court etc.) legal forms and other documents.
  • Preparing for and attending client meetings and taking detailed and accurate notes.
  • Assisting the team to ensure sound project management.
  • Assisting with the team’s business development and pro-bono activities.
  • Willing to travel as and when required.
  • Providing efficient professional support for all fee-earners across the team.

About you

  • Previous experience of fee-earning work within a business crime/criminal/regulatory team is essential.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to enable efficient co-ordination of work.
  • Excellent literacy, spelling and grammar.
  • The ability to communicate with clients and other business contacts in a helpful and efficient manner, responding to client queries.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients at all levels
  • The ability to interpret instructions correctly and act upon them.
  • Comfort using your own initiative.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to perform in a high volume, deadline-orientated role.
  • Discretion and a sound understanding of client confidentiality; and
  • Resilience and ability to work under pressure.
